Semi-protected edit request on 15 April 2025

It is requested that an edit be made to the semi-protected article at Old East Slavic. (edit · history · last · links · protection log)

This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. "Please change X" is not acceptable and will be rejected; the request must be of the form "please change X to Y".

The edit may be made by any autoconfirmed user. Remember to change the |answered=no parameter to "yes" when the request has been accepted, rejected or on hold awaiting user input. This is so that inactive or completed requests don't needlessly fill up the edit requests category. You may also wish to use the {{ESp}} template in the response. To request that a page be protected or unprotected, make a protection request.

In the table under The Tale of Igor's Campaign the text in Rusyn is a faulty literal translation, possibly from Russian or some other Slavic language and carried out by a non-speaker.

I propose the following change:

Не прилепло бы нам, о братія, зачати старыми словами боёве повістью о поход Іґорїв, про Іґоря Святославиче? А разначати путї по-правдивому того часу, а не по помыслями Бояна. Бо Боян віщый, коли ун хотїв придїлити комусь ростїкати ся мыслю по дереву, як сїрым вовком велькым по землї, сивым орлом под облаками.

to:

Не вартало бы нам, о братя, зачати старыма словами смутны повістї о походї Ігорьовім, Ігоря Святославича? Зачати ся тій піснї по правдї того часу, а не по задумох Бояна. Бо Боян віщый, кедь він хотів посвятити дакому пісню, та розтїкав ся думков по дереву, сїрым вовком по земли, сивым орлом під хмарами.

And to change this:

Ne prîleplo by nam, o bratija, začatî starymî slovamî bojeve povistovi o poxod Igorïv, pro Igorja Svjatoslavîče? I raznačatî putï po-pravdîvomu toho času, a ne po pomyslamî Bojana. Bo Bojan viščyj, koli un xotïv prîdïlîtî komus' rostïkatî sja myslju po derevu, jak sïrym vovkom vel'kym po zemlï, sîvym orlom pod oblakamî.

to:

Ne vartalo bŷ nam, o brat’a, začaty starŷma slovamy smutnŷ povist’i o pochod’i Ihor’ovim, Ihor’a Sv’atoslavyča? Začaty s’a tij pisn’i po pravd’i toho času, a ne po zadumoch Bojana. Bo Bojan viščŷj, ked’ vin chot’iv posv’atyty dakomu pisn’u, ta rozt’ikav s’a dumkov po derevu, s’irŷm vovkom po zemly, syvŷm orlom pid chmaramy.

This follows the Prešov standard for Rusyn and utilises the official Romanisation for it. I am unsure whether I can provide any sources for the edit though, as there is no official Rusyn translation of the text. Please let me know if there are any questions I need to answer or any other info I need to supply for this edit to be approved.

P.S. I have previously corrected another pseudo-Rusyn passage to a Rusyn one in this very article (see here), but it’s become semi-protected since due to an unrelated instance of edit warring. Flipdot (talk) 15:34, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
